With a view to constant updating and improvement of skills, the staff of Biodermol Ambiente is acquiring a key tool: the use of respirometric techniques.

Respirometry, thanks to the large amount of information it allows to obtain, will soon be a fundamental business tool that will allow us to better meet the needs of our customers.

The discipline of respirometry is based on the measurement of the oxygen consumption used by biomass to degrade organic matter. The analysis of BOD5, commonly used to quantify the pollutant load in wastewater, is supported and improved in performance, as respirometry provides many additional data that are not obtainable with other techniques, such as COD fractionation.

In fact, each wastewater treatment plant has specific characteristics and critical points, therefore it requires an in-depth and personalized approach to be able to highlight and solve the various problems.

Respirometric techniques are therefore the new project on which the company wants to invest, in conjunction with the construction of the new research and development laboratory.

The realization of this project is possible thanks to the precious collaboration of Eng. Paola Foladori, Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Trento.

With a respirometer it is possible to quickly obtain a large amount of information respectively on biomass and on wastewater.

The versatility of the instrument allows a customization of the analysis carried out in order to respond to different needs. For example, it is possible to check how fast and active the biomass present in a wastewater treatment plant is, or if there are inhibiting substances in the wastewater that slow down the process.

The goal is to have a tool available to obtain objective and significant data to better understand the problems and needs of the various wastewater treatment plants.

In this way it will be possible to provide the most targeted and personalized solutions.
